29.05.26 LABORATORY - FLUID ECOLOGIES: HYDROFEMINISM, BODY, PERFORMACE
Underwater performance by Justyna Niżnik and lectures by Dorota Sajewska and Fabienne Liptay
Friday, 29 May
9:45 am - 1:15 pm
and 3:00 - 5:00 pm
Jerzy Limon Theater Hall, University of Gdańsk

With her ever-evolving practice, which bridges classical performance and contemporary experimentation, Justyna Niznik transcends the boundaries of musical expression, redefining the possibilities of the violin and sound in space. In September 2023, she began researching her PERCEPTIONS OF (IN) REAL – UNDERWATER project, examining the sonic potential of the violin underwater. For the event in Gdańsk, Justyna prepared a performance that explores her relationship with the instrument and how it reacts to different fluidities.
Her "Underwater performance without water" took place on the theatre stage at the University of Gdańsk and was accompanied by two lectures: one by Fabienne Liptay "On the Higher Frequencies", in which she investigated "sirenic" voices through notions of vibration and invocation; and one by Dorota Sajewska "Bodies of Water", in which she tested the possibilities of the expanded concept of corporealities in relation to Astrida Neimanis' theory and Florentina Holzinger's installation "Seaworld Venice".
